Welcome to Nutrition and Analysis – where I believe managing insulin levels and insulin resistance is the foundation of managing your health. It is run by Diabetes Specialist Dietitian and Nutritionist Liz Smith.

The specialist areas of interest supported are pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, PCOS, weight management and the use of weight loss injections.

All my appointments are online via Zoom so I can support people wherever in the country they are although I can offer occasional face to face sessions in cities and towns such as Bath, Bristol Cheltenham, Cirencester, Malmesbury, Stroud, Tetbury and more.

The short answer is – no! The longer answer is somewhat longer and more complex. When I say ‘no’ it is because there are essential fats and essential proteins that the body cannot make, so they have to come from our diet. There are no ‘essential’ carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provide glucose which is used by the cells of the body for energy. However glucose does not need to come from the food we eat, we can actually make glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis (which literally translates as ‘gluco’ – glucose, ‘neo’ – new, ‘genesis’ – creation i.e. the creation of new glucose).
